DIE WALKÜRE 2017
DIE WALKÜRE (as well as the entire Esbjerg-Ring) will be directed by danish director Kasper Wilton. Marie í Dali is set designer and Michael Breiner creates the lighting design. The production is a collaboration with the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra - expanded to 89 musicians. Conductor will be Den Ny Operas Artistic Director, Lars Ole Mathiasen.
The New Opera has assembled a distinguished singer-cast: The American bassbaritone James Johnson sings the part of Wotan (a part he also sang in the Royal danish Theatre's production of the Ring-cycle). The Swedish soprano Annalena Persson, who in 2005 was a brilliant Sieglinde in The New Opera's first production of Die Walküre is back, this time as Brünnhilde. Norwegian Randi Stene sings Fricka, and Hunding is sung by danish bass Jesper Brun-Jensen. Together with these experienced Wagner Singers are two exciting role-debutants: Cornelia Beskow and Magnus Vigilius in the roles of the young Wälsunge-par, Siegmund and Sieglinde.
