Fill up your glasses and join the musical party! The violinist Bjarte Eike and his merry companions recreate the sounds, stories and the spirit of a 17th century English tavern, through humour, virtuosity and a great deal of improvisation.

A show where sumptuous songs and frantic fiddle tunes mixes with dazzling dance-moves and sassy sing-alongs through Celtic and Scandinavian folk music alongside pieces by composers such as Henry Purcell.

Over the past 10-15 years, The Alehouse Sessions has developed into a bit of a cult-phenomenon in the classical music world. The international press has been raving about the project for many years now, and has been labelled ‘irresistible’ [The Times], ‘superb’ [The Scotsman] and ‘fabulously unrestrained’ [The Guardian].

A brand new one-hour documentary about the Alehouse project has been made for BBC4 and has its premiere in April 2023.

Bjarte Eike & Barokksolistene (NO)
Barokksolistene is an award-winning ensemble working with borderless baroque and folk music, weaving humour, dance, drama, and ale drinking into their shows! Since their foundation in 2005 by baroque violinist and mastermind Bjarte Eike, they have been touring Europe and America to sold-out shows. Their energy is contagious!

“This is not very classical, and certainly not very British. But it is exhilarating” (The Guardian”)

Reviews

”This terrific concert from the Norwegian group celebrated one particular moment in history when music was banned in public.”
- Ivan Hewett, The Telegraph

In an amusing combination of storytelling and singing the air will be filled with the sighs of sweet sopranos, the tireless courting of tenors and the blustering of self-absorbed baritones.

Here is a rare opportunity to experience five fantastic female dancers and two outstanding musicians perform a modern interpretation of the mysteries of the female body and its rites of passage.
